A Commitment to Community Health

Sue Feury

GE has long been a supporter of primary care and community health centers (CHCs).  You only have to look back to June to see a great example of this, when the GE Foundation announced a $2.3 million grant to the National Medical Fellowships to provide future healthcare professionals with hands-on primary care training at CHCs across the U.S.

CHCs shoulder noble missions, and they routinely face unique challenges.  Many rely on GE Healthcare’s products, such as Centricity Practice Solution, to help them operate more efficiently and manage federal reporting requirements so the entire organization can stay focused on what’s most important: providing much-needed care to the patients in the community.

I’m really excited to have the privilege of meeting a number of our CHC customers at this weekend’s National Association of Community Health Centers Community Health Institute (NACHC-CHI).  If you are in Orlando, please stop by Booth 618 and say hi!  I’d love to meet you.

At this year’s NACHC-CHI event, we are really excited to be featuring some of our CHC customers’ award-winning results.  Ammonoosuc Community Health Services (ACHS), a Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) whom I mentioned in a previous blog post, is one such customer.  Just three weeks ago in one of our webinars, ACHS discussed how the medical home model and Centricity Practice Solution helped them reduce ‘pharmaceutical misadventures’.  A pharmacy services project with diabetic patients resulted in:

  • 32% reduction in avoidable emergency department (ED) visits
  • 22% reduction in avoidable hospitalizations

That’s right: an impressive 32% reduction in avoidable ED visits and a 22% reduction in avoidable hospitalizations among a cohort of diabetic patients!

If you missed the webinar, that’s ok.  Just come by the Expo Hall to see a poster highlighting ACHS’s successes and illustrating how the center achieved them.  The poster is definitely worth a visit because it is a shining example of how a data-driven practice can enhance patient outcomes.

Presenting a poster? Tweet us!

Are you also presenting a poster?  If so, we want to know about it and make sure others do, too!  Each year, centers present valuable research and insights during the CHI poster session, and GE Healthcare is proud to be this year’s session sponsor.  Tweet your poster title and poster number to @GEHealthcareIT #chi12, and we’ll promote a selected number of posters during the conference.

We’re looking forward to an exciting conference this year!  GE Healthcare is a strategic partner with the experience and support necessary to help community health centers thrive through upcoming change. Stop by our booth to see what we have to offer!
